چکیده

conclusions high-level antibiotic resistance can occur as a result of multidrug efflux pumps combined with other mechanisms of resistance. however, the association between over-expression of these genes and highly resistant clinical isolates cannot be ignored. results our results confirmed 203 and 60 p. aeruginosa isolates from burn and non-burn specimens, respectively. the most antibiotic resistance was observed against tobramycin in both group of specimens, and no resistance was seen to colistin. phenotypic detection of efflux pumps was determined to correlate to a > 4-fold decrease in the mics of the tested antibiotics with cccp compared to without cccp in 57 strains. objectives the aim of this study was the phenotypic and molecular detection of efflux pumps in our clinical p. aeruginosa isolates in a comparison between burn and non-burn specimens. materials and methods in this study, clinical strains of p. aeruginosa were collected from burn and non-burn specimens from april - july 2013. antibiotic susceptibility testing of the isolates was performed after biochemical and molecular identification. the minimum inhibitory concentration (mic) of imipenem, cefepime, gentamycin, and ciprofloxacin, with and without carbonyl cyanide 3-chlorophenylhydrazone (cccp), was determined for phenotypic detection of efflux pumps. background pseudomonas aeruginosa is an important cause of hospital-acquired infections that can create serious problem for patients and physicians. many factors are associated with the antibiotic resistance of p. aeruginosa, such as efflux pumps.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a leading cause of bum infections, and antibiotic- resistant strains of this bacterium are emerging due to extensive application of antibiotics in the bum unit of hospitals. In this study 50 strains of P. aeruginosa were isolated from bum patients infected with this micro-organism in the bum unit of a general hospital in Kerman, Iran over one year [May 1999-ApriI20...

Emergence of Ciprofloxacin Resistance Among Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolated from Burn Patients

Background: Increasing resistance of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to ciprofloxacin in ICU/burn units has created a problem in the treatment of infections caused by this microorganism. Methods: Fifty P. aeruginosa strains were isolated from burn patients hospitalized in the Kerman Hospital during May 1999-April 2000 and were tested for in-vitro sensitivity to different antibiotics by disc diffusion br...

Detection of Antibiotic Resistance Genes among Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strains Isolated from Burn Patients in Iran

Aim: In this study, we evaluated the presence of antibiotic resistance genes among P. aeruginosa strains. Methodology: From January to September 2012, 100 isolates of P. aeruginosa were collected from burn patients. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed by disk diffusion method. Screening for Metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) productions were performed by Combination Disk Diffusion Test ...

Antibiotic resistance profiles of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates containing virulence genes

Background: A most common opportunistic pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa is present in both humans and animals and responsible for various nosocomial infections and healthcare settings related infections. Different virulence genes like; oprL (membrane lipoprotein L) and toxA (exotoxin A i.e. ETA) in P. aeruginosa, assist in its pathogenicity, toxicity and contribute to high antibiotic resistanc...
